Make a Difference Day

Make a Difference Day events began in Ottawa on Friday, October 21st when 125 OHS students, as well as OMS Builders Club, once again gave up their “day off” to volunteer throughout the community.  This year’s projects included games with COF, Food & Toiletries Drive, Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, Hope House, Franklin County Daycare, and more.  This year’s OHS MADD illustrated the continued partnership between OHS Student Council and the Ottawa Volunteer Center who have worked together for the past 3 years to organize this “Day Off” service day.  In total, 105 students volunteered a total of 210 hours on Make a Difference Day 2011.
Saturday, October 22nd afforded 100 community volunteers an opportunity to install the first handicap-accessible playground in a public park in Ottawa.  15 new pieces of equipment were installed in the northeast corner of Kanza Park.  Equipment includes slides, see-saws, swings, merry-go-round, nature table, parallel bars and more!
