Who We Are

The East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation (ECKAN), a community action agency, has been in existence since 1966 serving low-income persons in Anderson, Coffey, Douglas, Franklin, Johnson, Lyon, Miami, Morris and Osage Counties.

The success of ECKAN lies in the many services provided. These services include Community Food and Nutrition, FEMA, Head Start Program, Housing Choice Voucher Program, Housing Counseling and Rentals, Outreach and Referral, Community Volunteer Center and Weatherization Program.

ECKAN's Community Action Partnership programs are funded through a variety of sources including state and federal contracts, grants and local support. Ninety-four percent of total revenues are applied to direct program services.

With federal funding becoming harder to obtain, we continue to look at other sources for increased support. We are asking that you make a commitment to support the mission of community action so we may continue our commitment to serving communities and residents in East Central Kansas.

	1,199 self-sufficiency case management assessments or re-assessments
	112 people assisted with obtaining or bettering their employment
	56 people maintained their job 90+ days
	295 households assisted with emergency rent/utility payment
	460 people assisted with maintaining independent living
	438 children participated in Early Childhood Education (including Early Head Start and Head Start)
	637 homes were weatherized
	$1,195 average utility savings per home weatherized
	On average - 287 households received housing voucher assistance in the amount of $105,588 per month
	39 low-income rental housing units leased
	13,204 units or emergency food assistance were distributed
	17,732 hours of volunteer time were donated valued at $21.60 per hour, totaling $383,011.20. These hours are equivalent to more than 8.5 full time staff.
